Your client is the Brooklyn Bridge Park Coalition. On June 21st (the first day of Summer) they will be sponsoring a "Respect the Earth" mini film festival. They need you to create materials for this festival.
The film festival will be held on June 21, 2003. The name of the event is the "Respect the Earth Film Festival". Two films will be shown: Koyaanisqatsi and Princess Mononoke. Each film is approximately 90 minutes long. The first film will be shown at 7pm and the second film will be shown at 9pm. Both films will be shown outside, in the park. (The park is located in Brooklyn, on the water between the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges.)
You need to decide on the order of the films, and the importance of the films (Does one film get top billing over the other?, or are they treated as equals?). The organizers of the festival are most concerned with people seeing the films and attending, and want you to be able to produce materials that will cause this to happen.
There are several items that need to be produced and others that would be nice to have. The organizers want everything that you produce to serve more than one function. Most everything that you are going to produce is going to be disposed of, so if everything can be used for more than one function, the waste that this festival will produce will be minimized. Some items only need one copy to be made and do not need to be multi-tasking.
Needed Items (does not need to be multi-tasking)
Vending Price List. This is a sign that will go on the 2 vending carts. Popcorn is one dollar (25 cents if you bring your own container). Water, tea and coffee is 75 cents (25 cents if you bring your own cup -- water is free if your own cup). Pretzels are one dollar.
ID tags. For the people organizing and running the event.
Needed Items (needs to be multi-tasking)
Movie Tickets. These are free, but since the park is small, the organizers want to manage crowd control by giving out a limited number of tickets. (200 free tickets will be issued)
VIP Tickets. 50 tickets will be sold for $100. Seating will be provided for these tickets and the cost of the ticket is tax deductible since the proceeds will be donated to charity.
Promotional Item(s). In other words, a poster. The client is open to alternative ways of promoting the festival to the city, especially if it is seen as an ecological alternative.
Alternate Items (needs to be multi-tasking)
Popcorn containers. Some sort of vessel to hold popcorn.
Beverage containers. Some sort of vessel to hold liquid.
Anything else that you can thing of (and is excepted by the professor).
Issues
All items will be printed on recycled uncoated paper (60% post consumer waste) with soy based inks. Any items that come into contact with food will have a wax coating placed on the surface that comes into contact with the food (this surface can not have printing on it). This means that heavy ink coverage needs to be avoided.
The Vending Price List and the ID Tags will be produced on a computer inkjet printer and do not have these limitations.
Notes
Both of these films talk about the same issues: Our relationship with the Earth. They go about in different ways, and (perhaps) come to different conclusions. You need to visually communicate the issues that these films talk about.
Tickets (if needed) can be obtained at the park offices.
